How to play Dub'Up

A game in seven steps, two minutes to read. The same tutorial lives in the app and in the browser, with its own pictures on a computer: it opens on first launch, and you can reopen it from the home screen (“See the tutorial”) or the Account tab.

Step 1Pick a mode, then a scene

Dub Classic: everyone lends their voice, taking turns. Dub Challenge: the host secretly rewrites the lines, and each player only discovers their own. Dub Battle: teams on the same scene, and the audience votes. Open a door, then tap a poster in the catalogue: short scenes, two to four characters.

On a computer: dubup.app/jouer opens wide, the three doors side by side. Click a door, then a poster.

Step 2Hand out the roles at the table

Drag each character’s face onto a player. A player “here” speaks on this phone, which you pass around. To play remotely, “Invite” sends the six-letter code (or the link) to those playing from afar, in the app or in the browser. Alone? Keep all the faces: you will do every voice. Then “Start”.

On a computer: drag the faces with the mouse. “Invite” copies the game link: paste it in a message, or in your stream chat.

Step 3On your turn, record your line

Turn your phone sideways: the scene plays in landscape. When it’s your turn, the picture stops on your line. Tap “Record”; after the countdown, speak over the character’s lips. The take stops by itself, at the end of the line: it lasts exactly as long as the line does. In Classic, say whatever you like — the text on screen is only a guide.

On a computer: nothing to turn. Click “Record”, or press Space. The first time, the browser asks for access to the microphone: allow it; the “Mic” button picks which one (headset, USB mic…).

Step 4Listen, retake, validate

“Listen to my take” plays your voice over the picture. “Retake”, until you’re happy. “I’m done” passes the turn to the next player, who can hear your line to answer it. Nobody else hears anything before the end: that is the rule of the game.

On a computer: Space retakes, Enter moves on, M plays your take again.

Step 5Discover the cut together

Once everyone is done, Dub’Up puts all the voices on the scene. Reveal it all together: that is the moment. You will find it afterwards in “My scenes”, and “Edit” reopens your lines if you want to redo one.

On a computer: “720p” and “1080p” download the video.

Step 6Share on social networks

“Share the video”, from the result or “My scenes”, exports the game in vertical, ready for TikTok, Instagram or Facebook.

The share is yours. On a phone, the video goes through the share sheet, to the app you choose; on a computer, it lands in your downloads (or the system share sheet), to post from the network’s website. Dub’Up never posts anything on your behalf.

Step 7Publish to the Showcase

The Showcase is the tab where players put their scenes online: watch, vote, comment. From “My scenes”, tap (or click) “Showcase” on a revealed game and give it a title. It is reviewed before it goes live; the week’s most voted rise to the top, and the all-time ranking keeps the best.
